About

Imagine Art Youth Summer Camp gives students time to focus on painting, drawing, and molding clay. The program is part of Imagine Art Youth Summer Camp at White Bear Center for the Arts and includes themed studio weeks that use the Ford Family Gallery as both an art-making and exhibition space. Each themed studio week offers different ways to engage, including open community projects and hands-on workshops, with the work created displayed in the gallery.

• Ages: 6–14 years old
• Schedule: Morning and afternoon options for grades 1–5 and 6–8, with sessions from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM and 1:00–4:00 PM

Students in grades 1–8 can attend Imagine Art Youth Summer Camp. Camps are described as providing a supportive space for growth where kids acquire new skills and thrive in a community that celebrates their artistic spirit. White Bear Center for the Arts states that its mission is to enrich lives by celebrating art, nourish imagination by inspiring creativity, and build understanding by connecting people. WBCA offers hundreds of art classes for all ages and abilities, along with free gallery exhibitions for the whole community, and hosts around a dozen exhibitions each year throughout its gallery spaces, including the Ford Family Gallery.

The roots of the present-day art center trace back to Edna Imm, an art teacher in White Bear Lake in the 1930s and 40s who brought together groups of artists for classes. In 1968, Sister Florentine created the White Bear Arts Council, which later moved to the Armory and changed its name to White Bear Center for the Arts in 1997. In 2013, WBCA moved to its current home on Long Ave., and after renovation and an addition, it reopened to the public in 2021 with the Ford Family Gallery, a retail shop, an outdoor campus, and an expanded clay wing.

WBCA describes itself as a place for people to gather and a platform for showcasing diverse perspectives, nurturing emerging and established artists in the community and beyond. WBCA states that its programming is accessible to all members of the community and that it seeks opportunities that expand outreach to diverse populations in the community.

One participant, Mary Claire R., says that signing up for classes at WBCA is the best thing she has done for herself in decades and thanks the center for providing a wide range of class formats and a beautiful facility. Another, Wendy S., says WBCA brings together a community of talented artists who share their knowledge and build their skills, and that it is a place to interact with fellow artists in classes and events. Lisa S. describes WBCA as a warm, welcoming art community with a wide variety of events and classes for all artistic levels, and John W. says the programs encompass many areas of creativity and appreciation for the arts.
