About

The Morrie Miller Youth Tackle Football League provides instruction for youth to learn fundamental football skills and to participate in competitive football games. The program includes a traditional Saturday morning league format, and a JV game schedule complements this format with playing opportunities for beginners. The program emphasizes safety and sportsmanship, and is described as fitting youngsters who want to learn how to play, brush up on the rules, practice skills, participate on a team, and have fun.

• Schedule: The league begins in August and ends in mid October, with a JV game schedule that complements the traditional Saturday morning league format.

The Morrie Miller Youth Tackle Football League began in 1998 under the direction of Pat Bowlin of Cotter Schools. In 2008, the league was under the direction of Stephen Kosidowski and the Morrie Miller Athletic Foundation, and at that time there were eight teams in the league, including five Winona area teams, two Lewiston-Altura area teams, and one Houston team, with over 200 participants in the program. Beginning in 2016, the league administration transferred to the Winona Family YMCA under the guidance, and with the support, of the Morrie Miller Athletic Foundation.

The mission of the Morrie Miller Youth Tackle Football League is to provide instruction for youth to learn fundamental skills and participate in competitive games emphasizing safety and sportsmanship, with a focus on football education and safety, participation, and sportsmanship. The Morrie Miller Athletic Foundation has granted over $3,500,000 to schools and athletic organizations since 2004, and through the Foundation, Winona Area Public Schools, Cotter Schools, Winona State University, and other private contributions, the Winona community created the Winona Community Athletic Complex at Paul Giel Field. The Foundation supports area youth athletic opportunities in over 20 different programs and provides state-of-the-art strength and conditioning training to youth of all ages.
