About
The Coterie Theatre School Acting & Drama Classes include acting classes, performance camps, In-School Literacy Residencies, Project Daylight, the Young Playwrights Roundtable, the Young Playwrights Showcase, and a Master Class. Actors of any experience level are invited into acting classes and performance camps at multiple Kansas City locations. Acting & Drama Classes are offered for students in grades PreK–12th, with 2024/2025 School Year Classes enrolling for incoming grades K–12.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: Regular Box Office hours Monday–Friday 10:00am–4:00pm, with additional hours on school-year weekday matinee days starting at 9:00am, on Fridays with evening performances until 8:00pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays with performances starting at noon
Elementary Actors in grades K through 4 explore the actor’s toolbox of body, voice, and imagination through structured activities led by teaching artists. Preteen Actors in grades 5 through 7 are introduced to the fundamentals of acting as a base for future in-depth classes. Teen Actors in grades 8 through 12 take more in-depth classes that introduce them to various acting techniques, and Master Actors, by invitation only, take ongoing advanced theatre training with more advanced material and more mature content than school theatre programs. In-School Literacy Residencies offer workshops focused on reading and writing for grades 1–12 through May 2026. Project Daylight is a free presentation touring to Kansas City area schools that supports mental wellness in preteens and is touring free to 6th and 7th grades through July 2026. Gift cards to The Coterie can be redeemed for shows or acting classes.
The Coterie is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Community involvement includes Project Daylight, which is offered free of charge to Kansas City area 6th and 7th grades supporting mental health and wellness, and sponsorship support from businesses and organizations. The leadership team includes Managing Director Jonathan Thomas, Producing Artistic Director Khalia Davis, Marketing and Public Relations Director David Golston, Development Manager Carol Kobza, Theatre School Director Allison Nissley, Community Programs Manager Xinyue Zhang, Education Booking Coordinator Stephanie Laaker, Box Office Manager Jason Coats, and Box Office Assistant & Marketing Specialist Tressa Lee.
