The DC Department of Parks and Recreation Programs include activities such as Tackle Football, Summer Camps, Cooperative Play, Cheerleading, aquatics programs, afterschool programs Afternoon Access and Enrichment Zone, and open skate at Fort Dupont Ice Arena. The department offers hundreds of free programs for recreational purposes for District residents, and most of its programs are free for DC residents. Some fee-based programs are offered at a reduced rate based on income for qualifying families.
• Schedule: Programs run in seasonal sessions, including Winter (November 17, 2025–March 14, 2026; November 16, 2026–March 14, 2207), Spring (March 16, 2026–June 14, 2026), Summer (June 22, 2026–August 31, 2026), and Fall (September 2, 2026–November 14, 2026), with aquatics programs and all other programs having separate registration dates for each season; Tackle Football registration is the last Monday in February, Summer Camps registration is in early 2025, Cooperative Play registration is the second Monday in April, and Cheerleading registration is the second Monday in July.

The department offers a Youth Development Professional Certification in partnership with the George Washington University Center for Excellence in Public Leadership (GW CEPL). Through its Rec for All grants, the department provides support to programs, activities, and events that will engage youth, provide recreation opportunities, and promote skill development. The Permits Office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and the Department of Parks and Recreation office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
