• Ages: 3–18 years old
For over thirty-five years, Oregon Children’s Theatre has been creating theater experiences for children and families. OCT’s Acting Academy provides year-round arts education by creating pathways for students to grow, fostering joy, creativity, and imagination, and meeting each student right where they are. In addition to learning about theater and performing, kids in these programs learn life skills such as empathy, resilience, and collaboration.
The organization’s mission states that it believes theater and storytelling can educate, empower, inspire, and entertain, with a vision that all children, families, and communities have opportunities to learn and grow through theater and the arts. Its curriculum and training are developed in partnership with local educators, are based in arts-based and trauma-informed practices, and are aligned with Common Core Standards. The program states that it recognizes the need to address inequities on an institutional level, works to mitigate barriers to participation, and engages with many parts of the community to better understand surrounding cultures and tell meaningful and relevant stories.
The program notes that its Young Professionals Company is award-winning and that it produces and performs three shows each year for older teen audiences.
