Youth Basketball Leagues & Skills Classes offers basketball leagues, basketball skills classes, and Basketball FUNdamentals that include shooting, passing, dribbling, and scrimmage time. All teams are mixed gender, beginners are welcome, and registration is done individually rather than by team. Each team has 12 slots, and membership is not required to join the league.
• Ages: 5–11 years old
• Schedule: Winter 2026 League meets once a week for 50-minute evening practices with games on Saturdays; spring leagues include separate evening practice times for 2nd–3rd grade teams and 4th–5th grade teams.
• Price: $250/session (includes uniform)
All games and practices take place in the same gymnasium. Players wear and keep their own official Portland Trail Blazers jerseys and use new equipment. There are also team opportunities to go to Portland Trail Blazers games and to meet Portland Trail Blazers mascots.
All teams are led by trained volunteer parent coaches who must pass a background check. Volunteer parent coaches receive extra training opportunities from Portland Trail Blazers staff and have access to official NBA lesson plans scaled for co-ed youth leagues. Parents who pass a background check and commit to coaching before registration opens may register their own children early.
The Northeast Community Center has a rich, century-old history of intergenerational impact, and its mission is to build and support a thriving and resilient intergenerational community in NE Portland. NECC has partnered with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Jr. NBA, and the league is sponsored by Portland Children’s Levy. Members receive early registration before the general public and can use all facilities, including getting extra practice time during open gym.
