About
Steve & Kate's Camp offers a flexible day camp where campers choose their own activities and plan their own days. The program uses all-inclusive rates that cover all camp hours, snacks and lunch, and any activities that interest each child, with no additional or surprise fees. Parents can buy any number of day passes, attend camp any time, and receive automatic full refunds for any unused purchased Day Passes at the end of summer, or buy a Summer Pass for unlimited use with an automatic refund if it is underused compared to the daily rate.
• Ages: 4–13 years old
• Schedule: Long camp hours, 8am–6pm, included in the camp fee
The summer camp program is for children entering PreK through 7th grade and generally accepts children aged 4 to 13 years old, with the requirement that all campers be fully toilet trained, able to speak up for their needs, and able to get through the camp day without a nap. Camp age limit is 13; if a camper turns 14 while attending summer camp, they may finish out the summer, and 13-year-olds may attend if they meet specific conditions, including in some locations entering grade 8 during the registration period. Steve & Kate's Camp also offers mentorship programs for children aged 14 and 15, with availability varying by location, and no paperwork is required for age verification during registration.
Way back in 1980, Steve and Kate Susskind created this summer camp after seeing kids’ independence slipping away. Even though Steve and Kate no longer work with the organization, their vision is carried out through VPs Kevin and Mike, who have a combined 55 years of Steve & Kate’s work experience, 47 of those alongside the founders. Mike started as a counselor at Steve & Kate’s in 1998 and has been there ever since, and Kevin is a former Steve & Kate’s camper who now works in operations. Today, Steve & Kate’s Camp has more than 90 locations and has spawned more than 70 “islands of freedom” from Manhattan to Manhattan Beach.
“The children that attend Steve & Kate's blossom and discover a freedom of identity that, in a way, no other institution I've experienced has ever managed. Kids find their thumbprint at Steve & Kate's. My one complaint: Where were they when I was a kid?” – Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, & Finding Dory. “If kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve and Kate’s Camp.” – Apple’s Hot News. “Steve and Kate’s Camp didn’t set out to cater to the children of folks at Pixar, Industrial Light & Magic and the like, but given their philosophy, it’s no surprise so many attend.” – Variety magazine. “For families seeking a blend of that traditional camp experience combined with a modern, tech-savvy touch, there’s Steve and Kate’s Camp [which] evokes a laid-back aura true to its California roots, complemented by the company’s Silicon Valley-inspired innovative approaches to everything from programming to payment.” – The Washington Post. “Working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.” – Chicago Tribune.
