The Y’s mission states that it empowers everyone, no matter who they are or where they are from, by ensuring access to resources, relationships, and opportunities for all to learn, grow, and thrive. The organization has a Charity Navigator 4-Star Rating, serves nearly 30,000 members, employs more than 1,000 people, and provides volunteer opportunities for more than 1,600 people. The Y’s Financial Assistance program is available to anyone who meets the financial guidelines of the program, lives or works in the service area, and has the desire to participate in YMCA programs or services.
As a community-based nonprofit, the Y focuses on addressing inequity, food insecurity, health disparities, learning gaps, and other community needs. It provides parents with childcare, young adults with job training, seniors with ways to fight social isolation, and children with a place to go. The Y listens and responds to critical needs in the community, with a focus on vulnerable and under-served populations. The Franklin Food Security Project partners with The Franklin Food Bank and The First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens for FREE FOOD GIVEAWAY with Franklin Township YMCA, and Star Fish Food Pantry, in partnership with Plainfield YMCA, distributes bi-weekly food and produce bags to families in need. MEMORY CAFE is described as a free, volunteer-led program for individuals experiencing memory loss, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease, Dementia, and other conditions. Each Sunday is YMCA day at TD Bank Ballpark for Sunday Somerset Patriots Tickets in support of Greater Somerset County YMCA.
