Featured Events for Kids

Featured Events for Kids includes Rhyme Time, Tales for Twos, Story Time, and the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten early literacy program. Children take part in short books, songs, movement, stories, rhymes, and finger plays during these events. Families can also join the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program as an ongoing reading activity.

• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Rhyme Time, Tales for Twos, and Story Time are offered on select Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in 30-minute sessions at different times in the morning and afternoon

The library’s mission for these events is stated as: Create Community Honor Equity People Focused Lifelong Learning. Rhyme Time is described as developing babies’ motor, sensory, and social skills and includes short books, songs, movement, and more for infants, crawlers, and walkers ages 0 to 23 months. Tales for Twos is described as developing language and pre-literacy skills with stories, songs, rhymes, and movement for two-year-olds and is developmentally designed for ages 24 to 35 months. Story Time is described as improving literacy skills and encouraging school-readiness with stories, songs, and finger plays and is developmentally designed for ages 3 to 5. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is described as an ongoing early literacy program that encourages families with children ages 0 to 5 to read to their children every day.

Registration is required and reserved for library cardholders for Rhyme Time, Tales for Twos, and Story Time. A CHPL library card is needed to register for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. To sign up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, families can sign their child up in person or print out an application online and turn it in to the Youth Services desk.
