Long camp hours, snacks, lunch, and any activities that interest the child are included in the all-inclusive rates, with no additional fees. Unused purchased Day Passes and unused Mentorship Day Passes are automatically refunded in full at summer’s end, and if a Summer Pass or Mentorship Summer Pass is underused, the difference versus the daily rate is automatically refunded. Additional state-required paperwork must be submitted for every child before their first day of camp, and registered families receive a link to a virtual camp orientation with details about daily procedures and what to bring. The camp is led on-site by Director Tiffany, and Steve & Kate’s Camp has operated since 1980.
The camp’s mission states that during summer, it gives kids freedom to expand and evolve after spending the year in rigid structure. According to this mission, campers choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long, and this experience is described as both pure joy for kids and a training ground for life, where they are empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions.
Testimonials describe the camp in various ways. Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, says that children at Steve & Kate's “blossom and discover a freedom of identity” and that “kids find their thumbprint at Steve & Kate's.” Apple’s Hot News states, “If kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve and Kate’s Camp.” Variety magazine notes that many children of people at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic attend, and The Washington Post describes the camp as a blend of traditional camp with a modern, tech-focused approach and a laid-back aura with innovative programming and payment. The Chicago Tribune states that “working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.”
