About
Millburn–Short Hills Lacrosse Club offers boys travel teams for grades 2–8 and boys clinics for grades K–1, along with girls travel teams for grades 3–8 and girls clinics for grades K–2. The program includes preseason practices, conditioning, skills work, regular season practices and games for travel teams, and clinic sessions for younger players.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Travel teams run from early March through Memorial Day weekend with preseason and regular season practices and games; clinics meet once a week on Sundays at 9am starting around March 1 (weather permitting)
• Price: BOYS Travel Team (Grades 2–8): $360; BOYS Clinic (Grades K–1): $150; GIRLS Travel Team (Grades 3–8): $360; GIRLS Clinic (Grades K–2): $150; Volunteer Coaches: Free Registration
The club is led by Co-Chair Josh Sarnell of the Millburn–Short Hills Lacrosse Club and Co-Chair Steve Tsai of the Short Hills Lacrosse Club. Its stated mission is “Access for All No one is turned away. If your family needs financial assistance, please email us directly. We will ensure every child who wants to play can participate.” The program uses TeamSnap as its central information source and notes that travel to other towns is a regular part of the spring season for travel teams, with teams sometimes combining adjacent grades to maintain competitive balance. All players must have a current USA Lacrosse membership for insurance purposes, and the club states that safety is non-negotiable and that equipment is available to borrow for players who need it. Volunteer coaches receive free registration, and trainers support coaches throughout the season.
For equipment, boys in grades 2–8 are required to have a helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, arm pads, stick, mouthguard, cleats, and athletic cup, while girls in grades 3–8 must have goggles, stick, mouthguard, and cleats. Clinic players in boys K–1 and girls K–2 need a stick, mouthguard, and cleats, with full pads and helmets optional for clinic-aged players. Additional details specify that K–1/2 girls need a stick, mouthguard, cleats, and goggles, and K–1 boys need a stick, mouthguard, cleats, and athletic cup, with helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, and arm pads optional. The club follows a mouthguard rule that only clear white or colored mouthguards are allowed on the field, and decorative mouthguards are not permitted. The club also notes a local connection with Lacrosse Unlimited in Madison, where manager Rich Doherty is a Millburn High School alum and longtime friend of the club.
