• Ages: 4–12 years old
• Schedule: June 29 – August 14, with a Camp Specialty Week from June 22 – June 26
• Price: Cost of door-to-door transportation for the entire summer is $775; cost of door-to-door transportation per week is $120.
The camp is a project of the Rabbinical College of America and uses SMS communication with parents for scheduling notifications, reminders, customer support, and updates. The staff is carefully selected and trained, and counselors are described as experienced, dedicated, and nourishing, with training in camp safety procedures and workshops on psychological and therapeutic advances and techniques. All food is strictly kosher under the supervision of the MetroWest vaad, and in all age groups the camp meets and exceeds the staff/camper ratio recommended by the American Camp Association. The mission of the camp is to offer a robust and diverse program that includes sports, swimming, trips, activities, and electives, all enhanced with an authentic Jewish learning and cultural experience, with programming interlaced with themes of Jewish pride, culture, and values and an emphasis on being kind to one another and performing mitzvot.
The camp offers a junior camp division that combines early childhood care with a broad array of Gan Israel activities, and Division B includes overnights and late nights. Door-to-door transportation is provided to many surrounding communities, including West Orange, Livingston, Morristown, Rockaway, and the broader Randolph area, using chartered school buses with certified drivers and counselors on each bus, with required cell-phone connection to the dispatcher and drivers. Leadership includes Rabbi Mendel Stiefel, Director, who has been directing Gan Israel Day Camp since 2014, and Chana Stiefel, Co-director, who joined as co-director in 2017.
Parent feedback includes comments that children “loved all the activities,” “had a great time,” “love this camp,” and “anticipate the summer all year round,” as well as reports of children coming home “with a huge smile,” enjoying electives and trip days, and meeting many new friends. One parent thanks the camp “for all the effort put into giving our children such a wonderful camp experience” and notes that “they all love camp and it gives them so much chayus.”
