NJPAC Summer Camp includes specific sessions where young artists take part in acting, movement, vocal music, dance, jazz, music theory, listening history, musicianship, improvisation, and chances to compose or arrange music of their favorite artists. The program offers a high-energy, three-week multidisciplinary intensive where acting, movement or dance and vocal music come together, and a TD Jazz for Teens Summer Intensive that is a week of intensive training with a comprehensive foundation in jazz. In these sessions, young artists collaborate to create original work rooted in lived experiences, sharpen their technique and ensemble playing, and gain essential tools and artistic vocabulary, with the three-week intensive culminating in a performance on the stage at NJPAC and the jazz intensive including an overnight stay in Newport, RI, for the Newport Jazz Festival from July 31 to August 1.

NJPAC Summer Camp is part of NJPAC, which has engaged more than 12,600,000 people since opening in 1997 and served over 2 million students and families since 1997. The camp is led by Mark Gross, NJPAC Director of Jazz Instruction, working alongside professional teaching artists and NJPAC’s world-class faculty, under the broader leadership of NJPAC President and CEO John Schreiber. NJPAC reports that over 670,000 people attended over 1,200 events at NJPAC and in the community in 2024–2025, of which over 500 were free. As a nonprofit arts organization, NJPAC states that it enhances and transforms lives every day, and through its extensive Social Impact programming it offers comprehensive arts education programs, free neighborhood performances, and events that use the arts in connection with mental and physical health. NJPAC identifies itself as the anchor cultural institution for the city of Newark and the state of New Jersey, notes that its original productions such as the award-winning The Hip Hop Nutcracker tour the country, and states that it is proud to be the most diverse performing arts center in the nation and one of the largest arts education providers in America.
