The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada has served youth and families since 1993 and moved to its current main Clubhouse on Russell Way in August 2009. Over time, it added the Carson City MAC in December 2015, a 7,500 square foot Teen Center in June 2016, the Smart Start daycare and preschool program in January 2024, three additional Smart Start Centers in 2024, the Wray Family Clubhouse in Carson Valley in November 2024, and the William N. Pennington Center Smart Start in January 2026. The organization’s mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

The program is part of a nationwide Boys & Girls Club network that is located in every state, including Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and U.S. military installations overseas, and serves over 2,000 youth in the Carson City and Carson Valley area. In 2025, 534 donors supported the organization across Carson City and Carson Valley, and the Teen Center was made possible by a grant from the Pennington Foundation matched by Club sponsors and donors. Lois Wray donated the building for the Wray Family Clubhouse in 2023.

Financial assistance for Club tuition is available through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada or The Children’s Cabinet, with Stephanie King listed as a contact for financial assistance. Leadership and staff connected to the program include board member Lexy Peterson, Carson Valley staff member Nicole Merrel, and Carson Valley Site Director Taylor Lambert. Hector B. is listed as the contact for questions or reservations at [email protected].

Families and community members have shared feedback such as, “They have been all 5 of my children's second family and that means so much to my heart as we don't have a big family! Thank you a million times over for being such an amazing, positive place for my children to learn and grow at!” from Sandra Frey, and “Shout out to the staff , the boys and girls club is a blessing.. with 5 grandchildren we needed the help.. thank you.” from Mike Fortman. Staff members have also shared their experiences, including Nicole Merrel saying, “The kids have uplifted my spirits,” and Site Director Taylor Lambert saying, “I went to the Club when I was younger, and I never thought I would be running a Boys & Girls Club site as an adult. Now, I get to come to work every day and spend time with the people that I call family. I wouldn't have it any other way.”
