About

Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada offers Enterprise in Action for elementary school students, JA It's My Future® for grades 6-8, and several grades 9-12 programs. These include JA Be Entrepreneurial® with Creative Problem Solving, Rapid Business Planning, and Think Like an Entrepreneur; JA Career Success®; JA Company Program®; JA Economics®; and JA High School Heroes®.

Programs

  • Enterprise in Action — Elementary School
  • JA Be Entrepreneurial® (Creative Problem Solving) — Grades 9-12 · Teaches students about the mindset and skills needed for success by aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators. In JA Creative Problem Solving, students learn and apply design thinking.
  • JA Be Entrepreneurial® (Rapid Business Planning) — Grades 9-12 · Teaches students about the mindset and skills needed for success by aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators. In JA Rapid Business Planning, students learn about the Lean Model Canvas.
  • JA Be Entrepreneurial® (Think Like an Entrepreneur) — Grades 9-12
  • JA Career Success® — Grades 9-12 · Introduces high school students to the workplace. Students participate in realistic work experiences in multiple departments of a fictional company, Orbit Boom.
  • JA Company Program® — Grades 9-12 · Empowers high school students to fill a need or solve a problem in their community and teaches practical skills required to conceptualize, capitalize, and manage their own business venture.
  • JA Economics® — Grades 11-12 · A one-semester course that connects high school students to the economic principles that influence their daily lives and their futures.
  • JA High School Heroes® — Grades 9-12 · Provides leadership development opportunities to high school students who deliver JA learning experiences in elementary schools.
  • JA It's My Future® — Grades 6-8 · Offers middle school students practical information to help prepare them for the working world. Students explore career resources to develop job-hunting skills.
  • JA Leadership — Elementary School · Challenges students to become community leaders. Students identify the characteristics of leaders, study local economic development, work in community service, and practice leadership skills.

About the provider

Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada was founded in 1956. Ila Achtabowski is the Interim Executive Director/President, and Darcy Esch Phillips is the Development Specialist. Junior Achievement is a nonprofit that inspires and prepares young people for success, and its programs are funded by corporations and individuals. Lessons are delivered by community volunteers, and the program also includes career exploration events led by community volunteers, business professionals, and educators.
