It is the only professional school of dance primarily focused on the Martha Graham Technique and repertory. The program is designed to take young dancers from their first creative steps to pre-professional readiness and aims to enhance their artistry, technical skills, and understanding of dance and the arts, with training adapted for different ages and levels. Classes are taught by faculty who are current or former members of the Martha Graham Dance Company and who trained with Martha Graham herself or with her first-generation acolytes. The Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD). In 1926, Martha Graham founded her dance company and school. Dancers who have studied at the Martha Graham School have gone on to professional dance careers with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Jose Limón Dance Company, Buglisi Dance Theatre, the Battery Dance Company, on Broadway, and with other companies across the world. The school’s leading educational outreach program, Teens@Graham, offers dancers ages 13–18 the chance to study Graham Technique, composition, and repertory to improve vocational skills and academic performance. The acclaimed Martha Graham School is registering students for its Youth (4–17) and Adult (18 and up) programs for the fall semester.
