SC Gjøa Youth Soccer is Brooklyn's premier and New York’s oldest youth soccer club, and it is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. Sporting Club Gjøa was started by Norwegian immigrants in 1911, and Gjøa Youth Soccer Brooklyn has been providing soccer opportunities since 1911. The club is inspired by its Norwegian roots and the spirit of exploration, with core values of Courage, Commitment, and Respect, and a long history of notable alumni who have played at high levels.
All programs are led by full-time USSF and UEFA licensed professional coaches. As a non-profit program that puts kids before earnings, SC Gjøa Youth Soccer follows a philosophy that puts player development before winning at all costs. At Gjøa (pronounced YO-ah), kids of all ages and abilities are coached in more than just the beautiful game, with a focus on essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and competing in a positive way, in a nurturing and supportive environment.
SC Gjøa Youth Soccer has community service involvement through the Playing it Back program. Many players come from neighborhoods across Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan, and some from Queens, and each year Gjøa teams travel to the Norway Cup in Oslo, connecting players with the club’s roots.
