Since 2000, Oasis Day Camps have been a cornerstone of the metropolitan New York City area. Programs at Oasis Day Camp - Park Slope include Early Start Imagination Camps for Pre-K through Kindergarten, Day Camps for campers entering grades 1–6, Teen Travel Camps for campers entering grades 5–10, and a CIT program for campers entering grades 10 and 11. The camp offers summer day camps for ages 3–15 with purposeful programming for all ages led by seasoned educators and professionals, and it describes its experience as having all the magic of sleepaway camp close to home.
The mission of Oasis Day Camp - Park Slope is to help campers grow in three key pillars: Self, celebrating individuality and building confidence; Others, cultivating respect, empathy, and collaboration; and World, engaging with local and global communities. Campers engage with local and global communities as part of this mission, and the camp serves families from the Park Slope, South Slope, Gowanus, Windsor Terrace, Prospect Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, and Kensington neighborhoods.
Staff members undergo comprehensive pool safety, water safety, and first aid training, receive first aid and CPR training, and all staff are background checked. Every location has either an EMT or registered nurse onsite, and certified lifeguards are present at the pools for extra supervision. The leaders and staff are education and youth development professionals, many with decades of experience as tenured teachers, administrators, or specialized support professionals. Jennifer Sanon serves as Head of Community at Oasis Day Camp - Park Slope and is an accomplished educator, working as an intermediate mathematics teacher and Special Education representative.
The camp notes exceptionally low camper-to-staff ratios, senior staff members always present, designated camp spaces restricted from the public, rigorous check-in and check-out procedures, strict walking protocols, an inclement weather plan, and hydration and shade breaks. Weather is addressed through reserved indoor facilities, and campers have access to indoor spaces that allow the camp day to run in any conditions. The camp blends indoor spaces with access to the natural features of Prospect Park, including playgrounds, Long Meadow and open green space, walking paths, wooded nature trails, and shaded canopies for nature exploration. Swim time takes place at a nearby pool, and tuition includes swim lessons from certified instructors and swim time.
Complementary extended drop-off and pick-up are included, and campers are served a hot lunch and daily snacks. All campers receive five Oasis t-shirts and an Oasis backpack. Oasis partners with New York Department of Transportation–licensed bus companies, with Oasis staff supervising all bus rides.
One parent testimonial describes looking for a full-day camp experience in the city for a 3-year-old, with camp running all eight weeks, including exciting activities, swimming several times a week, lunch provided daily, and staff and counselors the child loves. The testimonial mentions tie-dye, meeting a firefighter and a park ranger, a carnival, color water, and visits to sprinklers and a duck pond in Central Park, and states that the family is a camp family and that this first experience of camp has been positive for their daughter.
