In the spring of 2000, community discussions were initiated, and in March 2000 the Moriches Community Center was incorporated as a nonprofit organization. In January 2019, Moriches Community Center obtained a permanent home at the newly renovated Moriches Bay Recreation Center. Anthony Parlato III and Kathleen Johnson were named Co-Executive Directors, and Michael Valentine is Executive Director. The organization’s mission is to offer youth-based programs as an alternative to involvement in unhealthy risk-taking behaviors through the emphasis on violence prevention and diversity tolerance while encouraging civic pride and personal responsibility. The center offers the Parlato-Johnson Memorial Scholarship Essay, which awards two $1000 scholarships to Center Moriches seniors looking to attend higher education, and it describes its space as a secure and closely monitored place intended to encourage positive behavior choices among local youth.

The Moriches Community Center works with social workers at CMSD to identify and provide gifts and food for over 30 local families during the holiday season. The 2025 Holiday Outreach Program involved volunteers, shoppers, sponsors, deliverers, and donors, with special thanks given to Bobby Sabatelli and friends for a donation from their annual Turkey Bowl Fundraiser, and to the Fosters, the Dieli’s, and the Gentry Family as major sponsors. The Kathleen Johnson Memorial Nine and Dine acknowledges sponsors including PLUMB TECH, PLUMB TECH SERVICE SOLUTIONS, RICO’S CLOTHING, RICO MEMORIAL FOUNDATION, INDUSTRIAL COVERAGE, COUSINS OF KATHY JOHNSON, IBEW LOCAL 25, BULOVAS RESTORATIONS INC., and SUPERVISOR DAN PANICO.
