About
Cheektowaga Y.E.S. (Youth Engaged in Service) is a volunteer program where youth take part in activities such as making crafts with children at libraries, leading games at seasonal holiday events, and helping at craft nights and Lego club. Volunteers also participate in creating favors for Meals on Wheels, playing Bingo at nursing homes, helping at family holiday events, cooking meals for families staying at the Grace Guest House, and taking part in clean up with Adopt A Highway. The program also includes team building activity sessions and offers chances to do odd jobs such as shoveling snow, raking leaves, and light housework.
• Ages: 11–18 years old
• Price: Long sleeve t-shirt: $12; Hoodie: $20
Cheektowaga Y.E.S. is a volunteer program for youth in grades 6–12. Middle and high school students are required to attend an orientation program before volunteering for activities, and new volunteer orientations are offered on specific dates (September 22, October 20, and November 10) from 6:00–7:00 pm. Each event is led by an adult event supervisor who guides volunteers and makes sure activities run smoothly. The program offers training workshops and seminars, social events, and time to discuss teen issues and build friendships. Volunteers can receive community service hours required for graduation, and the Cheektowaga Senior Center has reached out to the program to ask if volunteers would be interested in getting paid to do odd jobs. The program uses Remind with the handle @CheekYES, and the program coordinator is Alicia S. Hark.
