• Schedule: The Dolan DNA Learning Center is open to the public Monday–Friday, 10 am–4 pm.
Since the DNA Learning Center was established in 1988, more than 750,000 middle and high school students have experienced its hands-on approach to science instruction over the last 35+ years. The DNA Learning Center states that its mission is to advance genetics education through laboratory experiences for students and educators in New York and beyond. The DNA Learning Center is described as world-renowned, with over 37 years of experience in molecular biology and genetics education, and includes its largest center, DNALC NYC in Brooklyn, as well as a center in Wayne, New Jersey. Student research programs on Long Island and in New York City allow participants to conduct authentic research in school or alongside scientists, and students on science field trips can cover Advanced Placement Biology lab techniques through extended lab experiences. DNALC media provides educational, media-rich sites and animations on topics ranging from cancer to eugenics, as well as lab and bioinformatics sites on topics from human origins to RNA-sequencing. Community involvement includes the Citizen DNA Barcode Network, which engages community research teams using DNA barcoding to explore biodiversity in their area, and the DNALC Partners in STEM Center at Arecibo Observatory, which is connected to a National Science Foundation $5 million investment.
