Magician David Black leads Learn to Amaze Magic Academy as a professional entertainer, educator, actor and magician, and past President of the Southern Tier Magic Circle. He holds degrees in Theater and Psychology from Binghamton University and is an Order of Merlin Shield member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. David has performed for over 40 years and has been teaching children, youth and adults for over thirty-five years, including directing education programs for several area churches for the past thirty years and teaching magic in many settings, including private lessons. In earlier years, he taught ballroom dancing for the Arthur Murray Studio and Water Safety at the YMCA.
The program states that performing magic does so much more than just promote self-confidence and that throughout the program a child explores creativity, practices speaking skills, and develops sequential thinking. It describes itself as a life skills course cleverly camouflaged as magic classes, where students learn the eight traits of a true magician: respectful, prepared, enthusiastic, confident, humble, creative, authentic and giving.
