STEM & Space Camps take place within the Cradle of Aviation Museum’s air and space galleries and full-dome planetarium. Campers are surrounded by over 75 air and space craft displayed in 8 galleries that cover 100 years of aerospace history, and they attend full-dome planetarium shows that use a pure laser projection system.

The Cradle of Aviation Museum describes STEM & Space Camps as some of Long Island’s most unique and interesting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) summer camps. The museum’s mission is to serve as an educational center that preserves Long Island’s contribution to aerospace, science, and technology by inspiring future generations through learning. The museum originally opened in 1980 with a small number of aircraft in un-restored hangars and later re-opened in a state-of-the-art facility in 2002 after a major renovation and expansion in the late 1990s. The institution is led by President Andrew Parton, is a member of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), and was named Best Museum in the 2026 FourLeaf Best of Long Island Awards. With support from the JetBlue Foundation, students from the Baldwin Union Free School District have taken part in a hands-on STEM program there that included classroom learning and immersive museum experiences focused on aviation, aerospace, and related careers.
