About
Capital District YMCA Youth Programs include day camps, after-school programs, early childhood care, preschool, teen programs, and after school child care. The programs also offer child watch, swim lessons, use of a family pool and indoor pool, and access to a playground, gymnasium, ice rink, indoor track, racquetball and handball courts, and strength and cardio equipment. Families can also find group exercise classes, personal training, pickleball, a hot tub, sauna, steam room, meeting rooms, and adult enrichment programs connected to these youth offerings.
Capital District YMCA Youth Programs are part of a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Childcare programs connected to these youth offerings are licensed by the Office of Children and Family Services. The organization runs leadership programs, Circle of Champs for families of children facing life-threatening illnesses, and specialized health programs such as Pedaling for Parkinson’s and LIVESTRONG®. Community efforts linked to these programs include food drives for local pantries, Basket Brigade Thanksgiving meal distribution, and Running Start, which provides school supplies and clothing to more than 800 kids before each school year. The Capital District YMCA reports delivering $2 million in impact across the Capital Region each year, including $500,000 in scholarships and programs in areas such as youth development, safety around water, and hunger relief. Members of Capital District YMCA Youth Programs are part of a YMCA that offers Nationwide Membership, allowing visits to participating Ys across the United States and Puerto Rico at no extra cost. The organization also launched the African Heritage Parade in 2019, held over Juneteenth weekend and leading into Albany’s annual Juneteenth Celebration and Festival, and hosts a Silver Prom event for active older adults with vintage décor, refreshments, and music throwbacks.
