• Schedule: Youth Basketball will run for 8 weeks
The program is open to both boys and girls. Each player is guaranteed to play at least half of every game. Youth Basketball runs for 8 weeks with an emphasis on fundamentals through drills and scrimmages, as well as fair play, sportsmanship, and fun. It is designed to improve play through team concept drills and practices led by qualified coaches, and each weekly 5 on 5 game is run with timed quarters and scheduled substitution times. Teens and tweens in the program work on sports skills, sportsmanship, the development of self-esteem, and having fun, and the program is designed to help improve team concepts as well as teach the core values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Players may be registered online by using the “My Account” box or at the membership desk of a local Central New York YMCA.
The Youth Basketball Programs are led by qualified coaches and supported by a leadership team that includes Nicholas Thibeau, Sports Coordinator, Hal Welsh East Area Family Branch; Austin Anderson, Sports & Wellness Coordinator, North Area Family Branch; and Max Staniec, Sports Coordinator, Northwest Family Branch.
