Bloomingdale School of Music

Bloomingdale School of Music offers in-person and virtual private music lessons, group classes, music ensembles, early childhood classes, and online lessons, classes, and ensembles. Students can take 30-, 45-, or 60-minute private music lessons in areas such as private piano lessons, violin instruction, vocal instruction, guitar classes, hand drumming, hand percussion, recorder learning, music theory lessons, and music history lessons, along with activities like singing, movement, playing instruments, and vocalization. The program also includes student concerts, professional faculty performances, master classes, lectures, after school music instruction, in-school performances, and Carnegie Hall play-in concerts.

Lessons are taught by passionate and experienced faculty. Bloomingdale School of Music states that the heart of its mission is providing open-access to music education to those in the community and offers music programs, partnerships, and performances to all who want to learn. The school serves over 800 students every week, provides early childhood classes from three months old, offers private lessons and group classes for children, teens, and adults, and has ensembles and online options available for all ages. It practices inclusivity by offering music education to all ages and levels and dedicates a portion of its annual budget to financial aid and scholarships, including free weekly music instruction to older adults on site in the community and a pilot year of creative aging programming that has included guitar classes and a music appreciation lecture series. All school events are open to the community, and the school has been featured on NBC’s George to the Rescue.

Bloomingdale School of Music provides high-quality after school music instruction and strengthens existing programs through school and community partnerships, including partnerships with Morningside Montessori, PS75 Emily Dickinson, The Cathedral School of St. John The Divine, Family Life Academy Charter Schools (FLACS II), Morningside Retirement and Health Services, The School at Columbia University, and the Bloomingdale Family Program. The leadership team includes Rachel Black (Executive Director), Margalit Cantor (Director of Programs), Jackie Traish (Community Outreach & Partnerships Manager), and Noelle Barbera (Director of Marketing and Development).
