About

Apollo Education connects students, young creatives, and educators with the legacy of The Apollo through the power of the performing arts. The program is part of a larger performing arts institution that has served as a testing ground for new artists and a place to celebrate life moments and cultural revolutions.

The Apollo has celebrated, created, and presented work that centers Black artists and voices from across the African Diaspora since 1934. Today, it is the largest performing arts institution committed to Black culture and creativity. The Apollo is led by a predominantly Black and women-led executive team, guided by President and CEO Michelle Ebanks, who succeeded Jonelle Procope after nearly two decades of her leadership. The organization describes itself as an American and global cultural and creative catalyst, dedicated to amplifying Black artistic excellence, innovation, and community through transformative performances, education, and advocacy. It is a vibrant non-profit organization rooted in the Harlem community that engages people from around New York, the nation, and the world, and it has also been a catalyst for social and civic advocacy.
