Steve & Kate’s Camp was created in 1980. The Manhattan – Upper West Side camp lists Greg as the Director. The camp states that all year long kids are in rigid structure and that, when summer comes, it gives them freedom to choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long, and describes this as a training ground for being empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions. The program notes that summer day camps are for kids aged 4–12, that campers must be fully toilet trained, able to speak up for their needs, and able to get through the camp day without a nap, and that Steve & Kate’s Camp offers mentorship programs for children aged 14 and 15, with availability that may vary by location.

The camp states that campers choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long. Parents can buy any number of days and send their child to camp on any day they choose, with drop-off and pick-up allowed at any time within camp hours, and long camp hours included. The program includes meals and snacks, with cuisine that features rotating specials and healthy snacks and sides that kids can grab whenever they want. It also states that there are no additional fees and that all-inclusive rates cover camp hours, snacks, lunch, and activities.

The camp describes weekly specials that change daily, including inflatables, performances, workshops, and petting zoos, as well as a Carnival Day on the last day of camp with a giant end-of-summer celebration, carnival games, extra treats, and chances to win prizes. It notes that this location will have daily visits to Safari Playground West and that there is Youngest Camper Support Staff dedicated to supporting the youngest campers. Steve & Kate’s Camp is included as a benefit for families with Bright Horizons Back-Up Care.

Families are told that, as camp approaches, registered families receive a virtual camp orientation link by email with information on what to bring and not bring, and that additional state-required paperwork must be submitted for every child before their first day of camp. The program also states that parents receive a virtual camp orientation link by email before camp starts. The camp describes an automatic full refund for unused purchased Day Passes at the end of the camp season, and that if a Summer Pass is underused, the difference between the pass cost and the daily rate equivalent is automatically refunded.

Testimonials about Steve & Kate’s Camp include comments from Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, who says that children at the camp “blossom and discover a freedom of identity” and that “kids find their thumbprint at Steve & Kate’s.” Apple’s Hot News states, “If kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve and Kate’s Camp.” Variety magazine notes that the camp did not set out to cater to children of people at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic but that, given its philosophy, many attend. The Washington Post describes Steve & Kate’s Camp as a blend of traditional camp experience with a modern, tech-savvy touch, and the Chicago Tribune states that “working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.”
