Town of Islip Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Youth Aquatics Programs offers swim classes and swimming instruction that include water safety instruction. The program uses beaches and pools as part of its youth aquatics activities, alongside other recreation options such as tennis, sports camps, and the Northwell Health Run.
• Ages: 3–17 years old
• Schedule: Swim instruction is offered during the summer season, and Brookwood Hall offices and divisions are open Monday–Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
The department is led by Commissioner Thomas Owens of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs. Swim classes are offered each summer and are geared toward young children and teens, with instruction in swimming as well as skills to be safe in and around the water. The Town of Islip states that “The safety and protection of all of our residents despite race, religion or Country of origin remains our utmost concern.” The Town of Islip is the 3rd largest town in New York State and has its own Islip MacArthur Airport. The Town’s Rifle Range is one of the very few such facilities on Long Island and is used for training by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as Nassau County Police, Sheriffs and DA, Fire Island National Seashore, Amtrak, DMV, Suffolk Courts, U.S. Treasury, Farmingdale Police Department, and the NYS Park Police. The Town of Islip was incorporated in 1683 under English rule.
