Founded as a single school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1998, School of Rock has grown into what it describes as the world's largest multi-location music school, with over 385 locations in 16 countries and more than 65,000 students worldwide. School of Rock states that it is a growing and passionate community dedicated to enriching lives through performance-based music education and uses a patented School of Rock Method that combines one-on-one instruction with group rehearsals, including students performing in real rock venues. Its programs include the Little Wing program for preschoolers and toddlers, the Rookies program for children with no previous musical experience that uses simplified rock instruments, Rock 101 for kids and beginners, the Performance Program as its hallmark music program, a Songwriting program that culminates in a live showcase or recorded demo for online students, and an Adult Program for students over 18 years old. Little Wing students use hand percussion and other tools to learn rhythm patterns and music syntax.
School of Rock Riverhead is described as a community hub for music education serving kids and adults across Riverhead and surrounding areas such as Calverton, The Hamptons, and Mattituck, and as a convenient after-school destination for students in the Riverhead Central School District, including Riverhead High School and Riverhead Middle School. Student bands from School of Rock Riverhead perform at local venues like The Suffolk Theater and at community-based events including Alive on 25, and songwriting students perform or record their original songs at local Riverhead music venues or a local music venue for Songwriting showcases. An independent study cited by School of Rock found that after joining its programs, 96.2% of parents saw a boost in their child’s self-confidence and 95.9% reported improved teamwork skills.
The School of Rock leadership team includes Stacey Ryan (President), Sam Dresser (Chief Innovation Officer), Demi Iskandar (Head of Marketing), Eric Schmidt (Vice President of Information Technology), and Jim Love (Vice President of Domestic Franchise Operations).
