Harbor Child Care began in 1973 by founder Jill Rooney as a day care center with eight children in a home in Sea Cliff, and has been teaching and caring for children throughout Nassau County for nearly 50 years. It is one of the largest not-for-profit organizations dedicated to full-day child care, early childhood, and school-age education on Long Island, with six Nassau County locations in Glen Cove, Herricks-New Hyde Park, Manhasset, RXR Plaza-Uniondale, Shelter Rock-Roslyn, and Willis Ave-Mineola. Harbor Child Care implements The Creative Curriculum® for infants, toddlers, twos, and preschool children. The Creative Curriculum® is based on developmentally appropriate principles, proven early childhood research, and play as the means for exploration and learning, and uses an investigative method with studies that promote children’s cognitive, physical, language, and social-emotional development. The curriculum integrates science, math, social studies, art, and technology in each study, and its daily schedule offers a consistent structure for the development of routines and rituals.
Staff-to-child ratios at Harbor Child Care follow the regulations of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
