• Ages: 7–17 years old
• Schedule: Specialized training during July in two-week and four-week sessions, with Session 1 running June 29–July 10 (no class on 7/3) and Session 2 running July 13–July 24

Students in grades 7–12 may select from any course offering, while younger children in grades 2–6 may select from Junior Musical Theatre or Junior Dance options. Two-week and four-week long sessions are available, depending on the course, and programs include independent projects and field trips. Teachers are accomplished artists and performers, and world-class artists conduct master classes and work with students throughout each semester. The Long Island High School for the Arts, which runs the Summer Arts Academy as a program of Nassau BOCES, reports 50 years of excellence, more than 15 productions each year, 100% of students going on to 4-year colleges, and 100% of students being eligible to earn college credit. Camps run in partnership with Hofstra University, registration is managed through Hofstra University, and The Joel Foundation provides scholarships for music and musical theatre students, with fifteen talented students registering for Music or Musical Theatre selected to attend all four weeks on full scholarship through an application and audition process.

The leadership and support team includes Principal Lindsay Rogan; Guidance Counselor Melissa Lopez Stencel; Social Worker Jacqueline Collard; Nurse Geraldine Kearns; Performing Arts staff L’aura Bagdziunas, Christopher Brick, Kimberly Larkin, Natalie L’Etoile, and Alex Vietheer; Arts Exploration Skills teacher Melissa Dorcemus; Visual Arts teacher Kevin Edwards; 3D Animation teacher Christopher Fedorczak; Computer Game Design teacher Michael Minvera; Multimedia TV and Film teacher Robyn Morgan; Production Managerial Arts teacher John Vaiano; and Student Support Services staff member Jerry Nobile. The program’s mission states that emerging artists get the opportunity to explore and refine their talents in a one-of-a-kind, master apprentice, arts-centered community, and that students learn in a safe and supportive environment where they can pursue their artistic passion and discover who they are as individuals and as artists. A testimonial from Billy Joel notes, “I didn’t go to a school like this. It would have been really helpful to know there are other people who wanted to do this similar kind of thing and who are trying to learn all the skills necessary to do this.”
