Munson states that its mission is to create transformational arts experiences that cultivate curiosity and creativity which enlighten, educate, and inspire. Munson describes itself as a steward of a cultural resource that it enriches and preserves, and as a community-centered organization that, through its actions, fosters a sense of belonging for everyone to participate. Munson indicates that it connects people with the arts to enrich lives, encourage creativity, and offer opportunities to enhance cultural understanding, and that it continues to serve as the cultural heart of Utica while reaching audiences beyond and assuming a leadership role in the arts. Munson notes that its staff and faculty serve the public in a welcoming, inclusive, and exemplary manner through authentic arts-based experiences in museum galleries and through education, the performing arts, and collaborations. Munson’s programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
