About
Beacon Art Studios offers workshops where participants make costumes, make puppets, and work on arts and crafts projects. At the studio, children and adults can create new things from old things, learn how to sew, knit, and crochet, and take part in sewing and puppetry activities. The studio also makes custom-made puppets, look-alike puppets, and original designed puppets like Jeffy and other friends and family of Jeffy.
Beacon Art Studios was founded by Eva Intonti Gronowitz, Founder and Creative Director, who is the designer and maker of the famous puppet Jeffy from Super Mario Logan and works as a Production Designer and Costume Designer. The founder envisioned a studio where children and adults could gather to create new things from old things, find new uses for seemingly useless items, learn sewing, knitting, crocheting, and puppet making, and focus on the creative process rather than the finished product, especially when working with children. The founder has over 25 years of experience as a Production Designer and Costume Designer in both design and production work, with screen credits including over 200 commercials, 30 television shows, series and movies, 3 feature films, music videos, and several theatre productions. They also have over 20 years of experience guiding and motivating children through counseling, teaching, and lecturing in visual arts and crafts, including 10 years as a camp counselor providing supervision and instruction.
Their teaching background includes teaching Film, Video, and Theater and substituting within the Swedish School System, teaching Photography and Film to middle school children in the Tel Aviv School System, and counseling children ages 9 to 15 at Camp Glamsta in Sweden with instruction in arts, crafts, sewing, and puppetry, as well as creating education programs for children and designing the teaching curriculum for counselors. The founder’s education includes a Bachelor Degree in Film and Television from the University of Tel Aviv, studies in Theatre and Film at the University of Lund in Sweden, and studies at Parsons New School in New York City. They speak English, Swedish, and Hebrew fluently. Their awards include the Israel Academy Award for Design for Tel Aviv Stories, Best Design at the Haifa Film Festival for Wella Hair Products, and recognition at the International Haifa Children's Theatre Festival for Littleman and the Dragon, along with numerous international project awards at the Cannes Film Festival and numerous awards for best costume at dance competitions such as Ticket to Broadway and Dance Xplosion. The founder states they are ready to share some of their knowledge and experience with their community. The studio’s contact information notes that the studio is closed to the public until they are confident that they can reopen safely.
