Backyard Sports Cares (BYSC) is the non profit division of Backyard Sports. Backyard Sports is the leading provider of community team sports programs for kids of all ages in Westchester County. Established in 2005, Backyard Sports created Backyard Sports Cares to bring its stated ideals to children who have limited access to traditional youth sports programs, including children with special needs. According to its mission statement, Backyard Sports is committed to replacing what it describes as today’s “win at all costs” mentality of youth sports with an approach that promotes increased self confidence and a lifetime love of sports while maximizing the athletic potential of each participant, and Backyard Sports Cares was created to extend these ideals to underserved and special needs children.

The leadership team includes Steve Tseckares. BYSC programs serve as a bridge to neighborhoods and participants from various demographics and cultures. Through collaborative partnerships, BYSC offers sports programming that includes skill development, relationship building, and teaching of life lessons. BYSC programs focus on underserved and special needs children. Collaboration with other youth development organizations, including school districts, after school programs, and local youth bureaus, has been a key part of Backyard Sports Cares community outreach programming, and these partners work with Backyard Sports Cares to create programs that serve the stated unique needs of their community.

One parent, Kishma Baljoe, states, “Since my child started this program, I've seen great changes. He plays better with friends, he is more patient, he's more focused and his grades have improved tremendously.” Another parent, Sara Cremins, states, “My son Jake has participated in all of the Backyard Sports Plus programs. He has never been able to previously function in other sports environments. Here he looks forward to coming and walks away feeling successful. He’s proud to tell his friends that he plays on a basketball team. I am happy to see him proud.” Gifts to Backyard Sports Cares support programs that strengthen and enrich the development of Westchester children and are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
