Gerald J. Ryan Summer Camp
Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 1434 Straight Path, Wyandanch, NY 11798
About
Gerald J. Ryan Summer Camp offers campers a range of camp activities over the course of the program. The camp also holds a golf outing that includes a cocktail hour, time to listen to soft music, and a nice dinner.
• Ages: 6–11 years old
• Schedule: Camp activities run for five weeks during late June and July, Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
The Gerald J. Ryan Summer Camp is part of the Gerald J. Ryan Outreach Center, which has served the community for over thirty years. The Outreach Center was founded in 1973 and was officially incorporated in 1992. It enrolls more than 100 children in grades 1–6 in the summer camp program. The center is administered and run by three full-time staff members and relies on dozens of volunteers, and it is a not-for-profit registered with the State of New York.
The Gerald J. Ryan Outreach food pantry connected to the camp provides emergency food assistance to people in the Wyandanch area and neighboring communities, serving an average of 15,000 men, women, and children each year. The Outreach Center is a not-for-profit organization serving Wyandanch and surrounding communities and remains a core member of the ministry of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal parish, with interfaith support from other religious denominations.
The mission of the Outreach Center states that its staff, volunteers, and donors believe they must follow God’s call to meet the needs of others, one individual at a time, and it highlights the words of Bishop Gerald J. Ryan: “Concern for our brothers and sisters is at the heart of the Christian community.”
