About

The Blue Way Summer Arts Camp includes leadership sessions focused on Bluecoats’ core values of excellence, creativity, inclusivity, integrity, and collaboration, along with group activities and team building that use these themes. Campers take part in performance clinics for winds, percussion, color guard, and drum majors, as well as sectionals and ensemble rehearsals with the Bluecoats. The program also offers dance and movement classes, an arts clinic, leadership presentations from Peyton Grunzke, and a performance masterclass from Bluecoats Scenic Designer Michael Raiford.

• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: Leadership Symposium is a two-day session, Performance Camp is a two-day session, a Four-Day Mega Camp Bundle runs for four days, and a One-Day Music Educator Seminar runs for one day, with an optional Saturday night residence hall stay available as one additional night.
• Price: Leadership Symposium Residential Package ranges from $280–$355 depending on date of registration; Leadership Symposium Commuter Package ranges from $225–$300 depending on date of registration; Optional Saturday Night Residence Hall Stay is $60.00; group discounts of 10% are available for groups of five or more and 15% for groups of ten or more.

The program is open to marching band students ages 14–21 and offers both residential and commuter package options. All meals during camp are included, covering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and an evening snack, and families are advised that lunch is not provided on check-in day and that most residence hall rooms are not air-conditioned, with a recommendation that participants bring a fan. Roommates must be doing the same experience, must be of the same gender, and minors rooming with non-minors must complete a waiver before the Summer Arts Camp, and participants may be required to move into a different residence hall room for the optional Saturday night stay.

Participants live, learn, and perform alongside the Bluecoats Drum Corps during the final days of Spring Training, and those in the Performance Camp and Four-Day Mega Camp Bundle perform with the Bluecoats Drum Corps at the Opening Night Community Celebration. The camp includes a Blue Way leadership symposium t-shirt, a Blue Way performance camp t-shirt, and a free pair of Innovative Percussion sticks for drummers. Music Educator Seminar participants receive a ticket to the Bluecoats Opening Night Community Celebration and a 10% discount at the Bluecoats Marketplace during that event, and CPE credits are available for this one-day seminar for music educators age 18 and older.

The Summer Arts Camp leadership team includes Peyton Grunzke (Summer Arts Camp Coordinator and Brass Instructor, Bluecoats; Drum Major ’19, Bluecoats), Red Wilhelm (Conductor and Drum Major ’24 and ’25, Bluecoats; Tour Operations Assistant, Bluecoats), and Kate Allen (Brass Instructor, Bluecoats), with additional instruction from Bluecoats Scenic Designer Michael Raiford. Bluecoats states that its mission is to create performing arts experiences that inspire, educate, and promote excellence as it enriches the lives of young people and those who encounter their art. The organization notes that it partners with health and wellness organizations and uses industry-standard systems to support a safe and healthy environment, and it offers group discounts for registrations as part of its community involvement.
