After School Discovery offers a before and after school child enrichment program that includes fitness, sign language, art, enrichments and physical activity. The program also offers focused academic coaching and support in reading and mathematics, academic tutoring for 3rd through 6th grade students, and homework help for students and athletes.
• Ages: 3–13 years old
• Schedule: Before and after school options with fall and winter sessions, including programs such as Discovery Cove, Celebrate Primary, Strive 4 Success, and Club 212
• Price: Discovery Cove costs $5.25 per hour for the first child and $5.00 per hour for each additional child from the same household; Celebrate Primary, Strive 4 Success transportation, and Club 212 are offered at no charge; Rivalry Run Fundraiser registration fee is $30
After School Discovery states that its mission is to promote enrichment opportunities for children that encourages problem solving, investigation, self-expression, and self-esteem, and to provide high quality, fun, enrichment activities that stimulate young minds beyond the normal curricula to encourage higher level thinking skills. The organization has provided enrichment for students throughout Ashtabula County since 1995 and has nurtured children's interest in education and learning through fun, engaging programs since 1994. It develops dynamic programs using an experiential learning model, aligns its classes to state academic standards, and reports having provided over 30,000 learning opportunities, including support in academics and social/emotional skill development.
Celebrate Primary is funded by the Nita M Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center grant from the Ohio Department of Education. Snack and dinner are provided each day for Celebrate Primary and Strive 4 Success, and transportation home is available at no charge at 5:30 pm for Celebrate Primary and at 6:35 pm for Strive 4 Success. After School Discovery collaborates with local school districts, organizations, and businesses and works with a broad array of partners, and Rivalry Run Fundraiser proceeds benefit After School Discovery. The primary target audience is school-aged children and their families, and the program notes it is most effective when the student and family joins when children are at pre-school age.
