A Kid Again Adventures follows the mission that A Kid Again gives that joy back through cost-free Adventures where families laugh, connect, and feel “normal” again. In surveys, 88% of families reported noticeable improvement in the quality of life of their child after participating in A Kid Again Adventures, 79% of families reported feeling less depression, and 85% of kids said they feel a greater sense of acceptance from others and are less fearful of being in the public eye. Families, entertainment businesses, donors, and volunteers are part of a community that enables accessible, family outings year-round.
One family participant shared, “It’s the one day we don’t feel like the ‘sick family.’ We just get to be together, smile, and make memories like everyone else.” Donors Tom and Ann DiMarco described the motto of A Kid Again as “hope, happiness, and healing.” Volunteer Kim Chappell said that after volunteering at a first A Kid Again Adventure almost 20 years ago, the big smiles on the kids’ faces and the joy of parents grateful for a fun day with their families was a true gift. Co-founder Kathy Derr has shared that she knows from firsthand experience how important support is and that every family deserves and needs it.
