About

Seeds of Caring Service Projects for Kids offers hands-on service, social action, and community-building projects for children. Kids may assemble care kits for unhoused neighbors, pack sack lunches for food pantries, conduct pet food drives for local animal shelters, take part in anti-racism education that explores privilege, donate diverse books and toys to local organizations, and make music and visit with members of the developmentally disabled or local senior communities. The program provides kid-focused volunteer opportunities for families, classrooms, groups, offices, and custom corporate events, including on-site team building and family volunteer projects.

• Ages: 2–12 years old

Seeds of Caring Service Projects for Kids states that its mission is to empower kids to create a kinder community with their hearts, hands, and minds. The organization teams together with more than 80 non-profit organizations to help kids and adults learn about and take action on issues including homelessness, hunger, systemic racism, stigmas surrounding developmental disabilities and the LGBTQ+ community, senior isolation and loneliness, and environmental care. Executive Director and Founder Brandy Jemczura is described as a former teacher and licensed social worker with a background in education, social work, nonprofit programming, and management, and the broader leadership team includes roles such as Director of Development, Director of Programming & Operations, Program Managers, and various coordination and operations positions, along with a Board of Directors representing businesses, higher education, healthcare, construction, technology, and other sectors.

One parent and educator describes the program by saying, “Our kids have all the potential in the world to make positive change—and it is our job as parents and as a community to help them realize it. Seeds of Caring gives us that opportunity.” Children who have participated share experiences such as making more than 300 lunches for people who are hungry and expressing ideas about kindness, hope, and making a difference, and a senior living partner notes that “the simple acts of kindness go a long way among our residents.”
