A Kid Again

A Kid Again offers cost-free Adventures that include trips to amusement parks, sporting events, and zoos. The program also organizes outings to theme parks, entertainment centers, and museums, with everything for these Adventures provided, including admission, food, and parking. Adventures are described as cost-free, carefree, fun, accessible, and stress-free family outings for families raising a child with a life-threatening condition, and are designed to give families time to laugh, bond, and breathe outside the hospital walls.

A Kid Again states that its mission is to give joy back through cost-free Adventures where families laugh, connect, and feel “normal” again. The organization’s leadership includes Co-Founder Kathy Derr. A Kid Again describes its community involvement as being part of a community of entertainment businesses, donors, and volunteers that enable accessible, family outings year-round. One family shared that “It’s the one day we don’t feel like the ‘sick family.’ We just get to be together, smile, and make memories like everyone else.” Donors Tom and Ann DiMarco described the A Kid Again motto as “hope, happiness, and healing.” Volunteer Kim Chappell said that after volunteering at a first A Kid Again Adventure almost 20 years ago, the big smiles on the kids’ faces and the joy of parents grateful for a fun day with their families was a true gift. Co-Founder Kathy Derr shared that she knows from firsthand experience how important support is and that every family deserves and needs it.
