About

Central Ohio Martial Arts offers martial art classes in Tae Kwon Do (Ji Do Kwan), Haidong Gumdo Korean Sword, Hapkido, Gongkwon Yusul, Hopaesool, Gungsul Korean Traditional Archery, and Tai Chi. The program also offers self-defense classes and workshops, American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid/BLS classes, Tae Kwon Do at Lifetime Fitness, and instruction for an After School Program. A supply store is connected to the program that provides uniforms, belts, weapons, and sparring gear.

Master Laura Clements is the owner and head instructor of Central Ohio Martial Arts and Supply and has held this role since 1999. She holds an 8th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do certified by the United States National Tae Kwon Do Federation (USNTF) and Kukkiwon, a 7th Degree Black Belt in Haidong Gumdo certified by the World Haidong Gumdo Federation, a 5th Degree Black Belt in Hapkido certified by Hapkidowon World Hapkido Headquarters, and a 4th Degree Black Belt in Gongkwon Yusul certified by the International Gongkwon Yusul Association. She is a Master/Director Kickboxing Instructor, a Hopaesool Instructor certified by the Hopeasool World Federation, and an instructor for CPR, First Aid, AED, and BLS. She serves as an International Referee for Gongkwon Yusul, Tae Kwon Do, and Haidong Gumdo under their respective international and national federations and has over 30 years of experience in martial arts.

The leadership connections for the program include Dr. Duk Gun Kwon, President of the United States National Taekwondo Federation for Tae Kwon Do direction; Grand Master Jeong Ho Kim, President of the World Haidong Gumdo Federation for Haidong Gumdo direction; Grand Master Jong Gu Lee, Vice-President of the World Haidong Gumdo Federation for assistance; Grand Master Jason Mix, a director of World Union Hapkido for Hapkido direction; the late Grand Master Kwang Sik Myung, former President of the World Hapkido Federation; and Grand Master Jun Kang, President of the International Gongkwon Yusul Association for Gongkwon Yusul direction.

Master Laura has taught martial arts and self-defense in a variety of community and educational settings, including Sunbury Home Educators, ACPA, the Ohio State University College of Social Work, OSU Continuing Education for Human Service Professionals, Ecole After School Program, Worthington School's Evening Classes, YMCA North, Central Ohio Tae Kwon Do, and the Korean American School at Central Ohio. She has experience teaching ADHD/ADD, mildly autistic, deaf, and special needs children and adults, and she teaches anyone from age 6 and up, with a stated preference for working with children. She has taught hundreds of students and has promoted over 100 individuals to Black Belt, with all Black Belts certified in world and national federations.

Her credentials and awards include multiple United States National Taekwondo Federation (USNTF) Master Instructor Certifications in Tae Kwon Do, a Master Instructor Certification in Hapkido, and a Master Instructor Certification in Haidong Gumdo. She holds a Kukkiwon Membership certificate and completed the 2018 Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Headquarters 2nd Class WTA Taekwondo Master and Judge Qualifying Courses. Her competitive and recognition history includes many national and international medals, trophies, and grand championships, such as Grand Champion titles in Tae Kwon Do forms, a Gold Medal in sword forms at the 2004 World Haidong Gumdo Federation Championship in South Korea, and 3rd place in Grand Championships Bamboo Cutting at the 2006 World Haidong Gumdo Federation Championship. The program and instructor have received multiple Special Appreciation and Special Recognition Awards from the USNTF, a World Haidong Gumdo Federation Special Recognition Award, Community Service Awards, commendations from the Ohio House of Representatives, and a 2002 OSU Appreciation Award from the Ohio State University College of Social Work.
