Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens states its mission as: “As a premier botanical garden destination, we connect people to nature and create life-enhancing experiences.” The Palm House and Showhouse have been open to the Columbus community across three centuries, and the Conservatory as it is today opened in 1993. The organization is home to the John F. Wolfe Palm House, which dates back to 1895, and its visitor experience spans about 13 acres and includes a collection of glass works by artist Dale Chihuly on display and included with admission. It offers exhibitions such as Paul Busse Garden Railway, Orchids, Blooms & Butterflies, Harvest Blooms, Pumpkins Aglow, Holiday Blooms, and Conservatory Aglow, and hosts special temporary exhibitions by national and international artists each year. Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2025 honor by Columbus Top Workplaces and notes a historical link to the community through its location within an 88-acre city park that was the site of the first Franklin County Fair and Ohio State Fair. The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company Community Garden Campus is described as a 4-acre garden with an apiary, rose pavilion, berry house, 40 community garden plots, a demonstration kitchen and Live-Fire Cooking Theater, and is open to the public at no charge from dawn until dusk.
The leadership team includes Bruce Harkey, President & CEO; Garry Clarke, Vice President of Planning; James Butch, Vice President of Event Sales/Facilities; Karin Noecker, Director of Horticulture and Exhibitions; Jennifer Wilson, Director of Marketing and Communications; Jenny Pope, Director of Community Outreach and Education; Hillary Thompson, Director of Human Resources; Heather Popio, Director of Visitor Experience; Carmen Boy, Vice President of Philanthropy; and Jill Lukshin-Hoff, Chief Financial Officer. The organization notes that it offers a full menu of classes, workshops and camps focusing on gardening, cooking, fine art and wellness, and provides “Know Before You Go” information with tips on what to bring, what to see and do, and how to view current closures before arrival.
