Learn-to-Swim Lessons include Pre-K Lessons, School Age Lessons and Adult Lessons, along with Water Aerobics Classes. The program also offers competitive recreational swimming teams and competitive recreational diving teams during the summer. Swimming is permitted only when a lifeguard is on duty, and proper swimwear is required for participation.
• Ages: 3–16 years old
• Schedule: Four summer sessions with specific date ranges, including June 8–21, June 22–July 5, July 6–19 and July 20–Aug. 2, with observed holidays prorated
• Price: Class fees are $15 per session; Play Scholarships offer free lessons for those who qualify; a senior discount of $5 off lessons per session is available for those 50 and older (not valid on youth lessons); outdoor pool entry is $3 per person, per visit
Registration for Learn-to-Swim Lessons is only in-person at the Columbus Aquatics Center or any open outdoor pool during regular business hours, and classes are offered at select facilities. A Columbus Recreation and Parks Leisure Card is required for pool entry for anyone 3 years old and older, and leisure cards are free. Pools are first come, first served, have capacity limits, and children under 13 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult over 18, with children under 9 required to remain within arm’s reach of an adult over 18. An adult in proper swimwear must remain with the child at all times, both in and out of the water.
All bags and coolers are subject to search at any time, and no drugs, alcohol, glass containers, inflatables, balls, noodles or toys that obstruct water views are permitted. No smoking, vaping, electronic cigarettes, chewing tobacco, concealed carry or weapons are permitted. The Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, which offers these programs, was established through the City Recreation Department on July 15, 1910, and became the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department on Jan. 2, 1972, after merging with the Division of Forestry and Parks. The department’s stated mission is to connect the people of the community through the power of nature, wellness and creativity, and its programs and activities are described as fun, celebrating culture and adding to quality of life while serving as a gathering place embedded in neighborhoods.
