About

The Wellington Summer Program offers a la carte programs for rising prekindergarten through 12th grade students. It includes classes and programming in music, theatre, and visual arts, with opportunities for students in each grade to learn, grow, and perform multiple times throughout the year. The program takes place on a campus that includes a 400-seat performing arts center, two gymnasiums with four full-size basketball courts, a turf field and athletic pavilion, newly resurfaced tennis courts, and newly outfitted athletic training and locker room spaces.

• Ages: 4–17 years old
• Schedule: Eight weeks of programs from June 8 through July 31

The Wellington Summer Program is part of The Wellington School, which was founded in 1982 as Columbus’ first coeducational independent school and has a diverse and inclusive student body. The school reports that 40% of students identify as students of color and that the student-to-teacher ratio is 7:1. Lunch is included in tuition for all grades and is served in the Thomas Family Dining Room, which features a fresh salad bar, yogurt bar, deli bar, soup, hot sandwiches, and a daily plated hot entree and plated salad. Beyond the Bell programs run Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are built around themed activities while allowing flexible drop off and pick up times. Bus transportation is available for students in kindergarten through grade 12, and families received a total of $2.3 million in tuition assistance last year, with tuition ranging from $22,500 in early childhood to $33,000 in upper school.

The Wellington School states that it is dedicated to helping students find their purpose and realize their potential for tomorrow’s world and that it encourages and welcomes applications from students, faculty, and staff without regard to race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, disability, age, or other protected class. The school’s leadership team includes Head of School Eliza McLaren; Director of Admissions Dara Jackson; Assistant Head of School for Academics and Head of Early Childhood and Lower School Shelley Brown; Head of Middle School Louis Frank; Head of Upper School Rishi Raghunathan; and Chief Operating Officer and Director of Athletics Lindsey Smith. The Wellington School mascot is Duke the Jaguar, and a group of jaguars in the wild is called a leap.
