Lorain County Urban League Education & Youth Development Programs are offered through the Lorain County Urban League. The programs operate out of the main Urban League offices and are part of the organization’s broader education and youth development work.

Since 1978, the Lorain County Urban League has operated for 46 years as part of the Urban League Movement, which includes 92 affiliates serving 300 communities. The organization’s mission is to advance economic empowerment and enhance quality of life within historically marginalized urban communities by empowering African Americans and underserved individuals through direct service, collaborative efforts, and advocacy. The Lorain County Urban League has strong financial systems and controls that have produced clean audit opinions.
The Board of Directors includes members such as Chairperson John Monteleone, a school principal with Lorain City Schools, and Vice Chairperson Marisa Vernon White, Ph.D., Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Services at Lorain County Community College, along with other leaders from banking, health, education, and industry. The team includes President and CEO Parris M. Smith and staff in roles such as accountant, director of outreach and community engagement, director of education and youth development and health, housing intake specialist, administrative assistant, program manager, and outreach and violence interruption positions.
The Lorain County Urban League Guild is made up of community volunteers, civic leaders, and business and professional men and women, and it meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at the Urban League offices. The Guild serves as an ambassador group for the Lorain County Urban League and is part of the National Council of Urban Guilds, and the Lorain County Urban League Young Professionals also serve as ambassadors for the local affiliate and the National Council of Urban League Young Professionals. The Lorain County Urban League maintains partnerships with governmental and public agencies.
