About
The South-Western City School District Preschool Program includes center-based preschool classrooms, Head Start inclusion classrooms, and itinerant services. Center-based preschool programs serve children who are identified as special needs and preschoolers who are typically developing, called peer models. The preschool waitlist is currently closed because all available spots have been filled.
• Ages: 3–5 years old
• Schedule: Classes meet Monday through Thursday, following the South-Western City School District calendar.
Registration for the 2027–2028 school year will open in February, and waitlists do not carry over from year to year. If a child is on this year’s waitlist, the family will need to re-apply for the 2027–2028 school year. The first day of preschool for the upcoming term is August 24, 2026.
The program is connected with multiple South-Western City School District sites, including the South-Western Preschool Center / Office, South-Western Preschool Center, Alton Hall Elementary School, Bostic Center, Bolton Crossing Elementary School, East Franklin Elementary School, Finland Elementary School, Harmon Elementary School, Prairie Norton Elementary School, Stiles Elementary School, and Stiles Family Resource Center. The leadership team includes Dawn Brewer, Special Services Coordinator; Amanda Willing, Preschool Center Secretary – Special Education; and Elizabeth Henderson, Preschool Center Secretary – Peer Model.
South-Western City Schools states that it will take reasonable steps to ensure that persons with Limited English Proficiency have meaningful access and an equal opportunity to participate in all services, activities, and programs available throughout the district. The district’s policy is to ensure meaningful communication with students and families with Limited English Proficiency and to communicate information related to the education of all students, and all services needed to comply with this policy are provided free of charge for students and their families in need of such assistance. Language assistance is provided free of charge for persons with Limited English Proficiency.
