About
Kids on Campus offers a summer camp and an afterschool program that include activities such as archery, enriching summer activities, and a hands-on STEM workshop. The program includes educational, nutritional, and recreational opportunities, along with educational experiences for children. Kids on Campus also offers extra help with homework through its afterschool program at Alexander, and the program has been included in at least one participant’s IEP.
Kids on Campus is a rural community-university partnership that empowers underserved, at-risk children and their families in the realization of their full potential through educational, nutritional, and recreational opportunities. It is described as a vibrant illustration of how university-community partnerships can shape young lives with enriching summer activities and educational experiences, and it has been covered by the student-run newspaper, The Post, for its history, community partnerships, and impact on local children. Kids on Campus offers a Tech Savvy program with a hands-on STEM workshop for Appalachian youth, where students in grades fifth through ninth had the opportunity to hear from Ohio University experts and explore areas in STEM on May 10, 2025. One parent in 2019 reported that her son attended the Kids on Campus summer camp for five years and the afterschool program at Alexander for four years, that he discovered archery through the program, and that he received extra help with his homework there.
