Simon Kenton Council Scouting Programs (Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Exploring) include activities such as an annual pinewood derby race, family field trips, outdoor recreation and fitness, monthly outdoor campouts, and summer resident camp. Older youth in these programs take part in high adventure activities, leadership development, environmental education, community service learning, and peer group leadership opportunities. The programs also include career and hobby exploration, a career education program, and career exploration activities.

Venturing’s stated purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults, and Exploring’s stated purpose is to provide experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.
Simon Kenton Council reports that it is one of the largest councils in the nation and that it serves nearly 9,000 youth, including boys and girls ages 5–20 living in urban, rural, and suburban areas. The council notes that about 300 charter partner organizations sponsor Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Exploring posts in the council, and that at least 1,000 youth participate in its ScoutReach program. The council describes ScoutReach as delivering the full Scouting program at little to no cost to the Scout’s family and offering a Scout Registration and Uniform Scholarship program so that financial need does not stand between a youth and their Scouting journey. Through stipend program aids, the ScoutReach program is delivered to Scouts after school in partnership with Columbus City Schools.
Cub Scout packs are described as neighborhood groups where dens usually include six to eight youth. Lion Cubs are kindergartners, Tiger Cubs are first-graders, Wolf Cub Scouts are second-graders, Bear Cub Scouts are third-graders, and Webelos Scouts are fourth- and fifth-graders. Scouts BSA is a year-round activity for youth age 11–17, and youths who are 10 may join Scouts BSA if they have received the Arrow of Light Award or have finished the fifth grade. Venturing provides youth development opportunities for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Exploring is a career education program for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) or 15 to 21 years old, and its programs are based on five areas of emphasis: career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education, and leadership experience.
The council reports that it is staffed by more than 25 professional and administrative Scouters working with more than 4,500 adult volunteers. It also notes that adults are selected by the participating organization for involvement in the Exploring program, and that color, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, economic status, and citizenship are not criteria for participation in Exploring. In 2025, Simon Kenton Council launched a new five-year strategic plan with a goal to double Scouting and serve 20,000 youth by 2029.
