Since its inception in 2007, West Chester Academy has been chosen by over 9,000 families for music, dance, acting, and gymnastics classes. The program offers The Music Class® for ages birth to 4, Piano Express® group keyboard classes for ages 5 and up, instructional dance classes for ages 2 and up, a competitive dance program for ages 5 to 18, acting classes for ages 8 and up, musical theatre classes for ages 7–12, gymnastics for preschool and school-aged children, and aerial silks for ages 6 and up. Students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities are welcomed, from babies in The Music Class® to senior citizens.
West Chester Academy has over 55 teachers who have university training and/or years of performance and teaching experience. The Director, Ms. Patsy, is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music with a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, has taught piano for over 50 years, has appeared as soloist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and was named Ohio Music Teacher of the Year for 2005–2006 by the Ohio Music Teachers Association. Ms. Alina is Kodály Level III certified and trained in Bel Canto technique.
West Chester Academy states that there is a strong correlation between education in the arts and the development of skills that children need to become successful in life, and that its passion is helping students find their niche and reach their highest potential. It is described as the area’s #1 choice for lessons in the arts. Students come from West Chester, Fairfield, Hamilton, Lebanon, Mason, Springdale, Trenton, Middletown, Cincinnati and beyond to study there. One parent, Mary Weatherington, states, “You definitely understand child development and the variable paths that your students will take. I think you can equally teach students who want to become concert pianists or merely develop their hobby.”
The facility includes grand pianos, digital keyboards, and music instruments in the music studios; floating marley floors, attached barres, full length mirrors, and built in sound systems in the dance studios, gym, and group music studios; and a Tumbl Trak, pit, bars, beams, air track, and rock wall in the gym. Most instructional lessons and classes are month to month with no long-term contracts and a 30 day withdrawal notice. Recitals and performances are a regular part of the program, with venues ranging from in-house to Ryman Hall to cruise ships to many local stages and platforms. Background checks, CPR certification, security cameras, windows in studio doors, open door policies, and cleaning and disinfecting are used to support health and safety. Lesson times include after school, evenings, Saturdays, and often morning and early afternoon options. There is a referral program where referring a friend provides rewards to both parties, and West Chester Academy offers multi-class discounts. Friendly and knowledgeable office staff are available by text, phone, email, and in person during stated office hours.
